We are preparing for our big trip! When Garland and I made our final decision to sail with the World ARC on a pacific circumnavigation around the world we had no idea how much pre-work and planning that would have to happen for a trip of this magnitude.
Luckily, World ARC gives you a detailed list of everything you will need for the journey. We started in May, 2023 ordering parts, refitting the boat, buying additional equipment and reading about the wonderful countries we will visit.
Our Adventure will start in October or November depending on weather. We will travel from Rockport, Texas to Columbia. If we don't need fuel and we do not need to provision, we will not have to make any stops along the way. If we go straight to Columbia it will take approximately 15 days. We will meet with the World ARC group of about 25 boats in Columbia. In January, from Columbia we will travel to the San Blas Islands in Panama. We will travel through the Panama Canal and spend February in the Galapagos Islands. In March we will make a major passage across the Pacific Ocean to the Marquesas Islands. Travel to Tahiti in April and Cruise the Society Islands and end up in Bora Bora in May and sail to Tonga and Fiji by June. By July we arrive in Australia, Cruise the Great Barrier Reef and Meet the group in Lombok in September. We will sail to Lombok to Cocos and arrive in Mauritius and end up in Reunion in October. In November we will sail from Reunion to Richards Bay, South Africa. January 2025 we will cruise to Cape Town-Namibia-St Helena-Salvador, Brazil. By March we will head out for St. George's Grenada and end our journey with the World ARC group in St. Lucia in April. From St. Lucia we will travel home and we estimate our arrival in June or July.
Below are some pictures of our preparations:
